Senate Passes Fair Share Act!
Great news for Pennsylvania's business climate and legal system, as the state Senate, by a vote of 28-22 last evening, passed meaningful lawsuit reform known as the Fair Share Act (SB 1131). This measure abolishes the so-called "deep pocket rule," also known as "joint and several liability", and replaces it with proportional liability in civil lawsuits. Three Republican lawyers--Jane Orie, Stewart Greenlead, and Gene Yaw--opposed this common sense legislation. SB 1131 will pass the House with flying colors in the coming days and go to Gov. Corbett's desk for signature into law.
