Nothing Fair About It

Lemoyne (1.06.12) –  In Pennsylvania, workers can be forced to support a union as a condition of employment. According to the labor unions, requiring workers to pay a "fair share" fee is necessary because the employee benefits from the unions ability to negotiate on their behalf.

recent analysis conducted by the Commonwealth Foundation, illustrates that those paying their fair share are getting short changed. According to data that the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) provided to the US Department of Labor, less than 14% of dues collected actually went into representational activities, i.e. actually working on behalf of those paying into the union.

Non-union teachers are being forced to pay 75% of the union dues for representation that they don't want. Meanwhile only a fraction of the so called fair share fee is actually going to representing them. The rest is swallowed up by union bosses. A larger percentage of dues go to funding exorbitant 'leadership' retreats and administration than representing members. It's doubtful many of the teachers being extorted by the union would think a $48,000 seaside resort conference is something they should be forced to finance.
