Election Law Reform: Legislative Update

Voting Rights Protection Act

After the 2020 election, the Pennsylvania House State Government Committee took a comprehensive approach to reform the Commonwealth’s election law. The committee held ten hearings and heard testimony from state and local election officials. After countless hours of work, Rep. Seth Grove, Chairman of the State Government Committee, released one of the broadest election reform packages in Pennsylvania history last week.

House Bill 1300, also known as the Voting Rights Protection Act, has two goals. The legislation will improve access and increase public trust in the election process. Rep. Grove and CAP CEO Leo Knepper discussed the bill. Their conversation focused on the “trust” aspect of the election process. They talked about some of the changes the legislation would make, including an expansion of Pennsylvania’s voter ID law.

Please, take a few minutes to watch the video below and learn about the proposed changes.
