Great news for Pennsylvania’s business climate and legal system, as the state Senate, by a vote of 28-22 last evening, passed meaningful lawsuit reform known as the Fair Share Act (SB 1131). This measure abolishes the so-called “deep pocket rule,” also known as “joint and several liability”, and replaces it with proportional liability in civil lawsuits. Three Republican lawyers–Jane Orie, Stewart Greenlead, and Gene Yaw–opposed this common sense legislation. SB 1131 will pass the House with flying colors in the coming days and go to Gov. Corbett’s desk for signature into law.
